Payroll & PAYE

Paying your staff correctly and on time is one of the most important jobs in any business, and one of the most unforgiving. Verdi Bookkeeping runs payroll and PAYE for small employers across London from our office in Camden, taking care of wages, payslips and HMRC Real Time Information (RTI) submissions so that your team is paid properly and your obligations are met.

Who it's for

Our payroll bureau service suits:

  • Small limited companies paying directors and staff
  • Partnerships and sole traders taking on their first employee
  • Entertainment and voice agencies, TV production companies and publishers with changing staff numbers
  • Solicitors' and barristers' practices with office staff
  • Private individuals employing household staff such as nannies or carers

If your business works with subcontractors in construction, let us know at the outset so we can talk through whether the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) is likely to apply and agree how best to handle it with your accountant.

How it works

  1. Free initial chat. We talk through how many people you employ, how often you pay them and any benefits or pension arrangements.
  2. Gather records. We collect employee details, your PAYE reference, previous payroll reports and pension provider information.
  3. Set up. We set up or take over your payroll, check the opening figures and confirm your auto-enrolment position.
  4. Regular pay runs. Each pay period you tell us about hours, changes, starters and leavers; we calculate pay, issue payslips and make the RTI submissions.
  5. Year end and handover. We produce P60s and P11Ds and provide payroll summaries for your accountant to include in your annual accounts.

A named member of our team handles your payroll, so there is always someone who knows your staff arrangements.

Joined-up records

Because we can also keep your books, wages and PAYE liabilities are posted correctly in your accounts.

Deadlines managed

We keep track of RTI, payment and year-end dates so late submissions do not catch you out.

Experienced and local

Over 25 years' experience and an office in Camden where you can talk to us face to face.

Payroll works best alongside regular bookkeeping. We also provide VAT Returns and accounts to Trial Balance for your accountant. Payroll records must usually be kept for at least three years from the end of the tax year they relate to; see our article on how long to keep business records.

Frequently asked questions

Can you take over my payroll part-way through the tax year?

Yes. We need your year-to-date figures for each employee and details of previous submissions so that tax and National Insurance continue correctly.

Will I know exactly what to pay each month?

Yes. After each pay run we provide a clear summary of net pay for each employee and the amount due to HMRC, along with the deadline, so there are no surprises.

Can you deal with my workplace pension?

Yes. We assess staff for auto-enrolment each pay period, calculate employer and employee contributions and prepare the information your pension provider needs.

I am a director with no other staff. Do I need payroll?

Many directors of small companies take a salary through payroll. We can run a simple directors' payroll and your accountant can advise on the most suitable mix of salary and dividends.
