Accounts to Trial Balance

At the end of each financial year your accountant needs complete, accurate records before they can prepare your statutory accounts and tax returns. Verdi Bookkeeping prepares your accounts to Trial Balance with all the supporting schedules, so your accountant receives a tidy, reconciled set of figures ready to finalise and submit to HMRC and Companies House.

Year-end schedules and a trial balance printout on a desk
A reconciled Trial Balance and schedules, ready for your accountant.

A Trial Balance lists the closing balance of every account in your books, from bank and cash to sales, costs, debtors, creditors and loans. When it balances and is backed by clear schedules, your accountant can concentrate on adjustments, tax and sign-off rather than untangling the underlying records. That often means a smoother year end and fewer queries coming back to you.

Our team has more than 25 years' experience preparing year-end records for London businesses, from entertainment and voice agencies to solicitors, publishers and small limited companies. You will have a named bookkeeper who knows your records throughout the year, so the year-end pack is prepared by someone who already understands your business and the questions your accountant is likely to ask.

What's included

Our role: we are bookkeepers, not a firm of chartered accountants. We prepare your records to Trial Balance; your accountant finalises the statutory accounts, gives tax advice and submits to HMRC and Companies House. If you need an accountant, we can recommend Goldwins Ltd.

Who it's for

This service is ideal for:

  • Small limited companies, which must file accounts at Companies House within nine months of the year end
  • Partnerships preparing figures for the partnership return
  • Entertainment and voice agencies, TV production companies and publishers with a high volume of transactions
  • Solicitors and barristers who want their office records in order before the accountant's review
  • Businesses whose accountant has asked for better-prepared records

Deadlines and filing rules change, including the phased introduction of identity verification for directors at Companies House, so check GOV.UK or speak to us or your accountant for the latest position.

How it works

  1. Free initial chat. We discuss your year end, your accountant's requirements and the state of your records.
  2. Gather records. We collect bank statements, invoices, loan and asset documents, payroll reports and any existing ledgers or software access.
  3. Complete and reconcile. We bring the books up to date and reconcile every balance sheet account.
  4. Prepare the Trial Balance and schedules. We produce the Trial Balance with supporting schedules and note any items for the accountant's attention.
  5. Handover to your accountant. We send the pack to your accountant and answer their queries so they can finalise and file.

Frequently asked questions

Do you prepare and file statutory accounts?

No. We prepare records to Trial Balance with full schedules. Your accountant finalises the statutory accounts, signs them off and files them with HMRC and Companies House.

Can you work with my existing accountant?

Yes. We regularly work alongside clients' accountants and can agree with them in advance exactly what schedules and format they prefer.

What if my bookkeeping for the year has not been done?

We can write up the whole year from your bank statements and paperwork before preparing the Trial Balance. The sooner you contact us after your year end, the more time there is to do it properly.

When should I send you my records?

As soon as possible after your year end. Leaving plenty of time before your accountant's filing deadlines makes the process smoother for everyone.
